Legacy eSports, runners up at the Oceanic Regional Finals held at PAX Australia last month, have recently announced their partnership as gaming ambassadors for ASUS Australia.
It has been an incredibly successful year for Legacy, having ousted defending champions The Chiefs at the Winter Regional, earned the right to represent Oceania at the International Wildcard Tournament, and last but not least achieving second place in the Oceanic Regional Finals. It seems only fitting that a team that has grown so much and produced outstanding results throughout 2014 would cap off the year with this latest association with ASUS Australia.
Their role as gaming ambassadors will see the team working alongside ASUS Australia to contribute in building the Oceanic eSports arena into one that shows an exceptional level of professionalism and enthusiasm. ASUS make no secret of their love for eSports, having been involved in both the Oceanic and International eSports scenes for many years. Their partnership with Legacy is a natural step in their contribution towards supporting eSports here in Oceania.
Legacy looks to build upon their successes this year as they head into 2015 confident of their future both on and off the Rift. Team captain Tim “Carbon” Wendel spoke of the team’s vision for the upcoming year and his enthusiasm in working with ASUS:
“We are very excited to announce our partnership with ASUS. It takes a strong support network to maintain a high level of performance and we are ecstatic to have a name as strong as ASUS backing us. They have been a top name in eSports for a long time and we could not be happier to have them in our corner.”
The developing relationships between technology and gaming companies associated with eSports teams within the Oceanic scene are encouraging. With the recent partnership between Legacy eSports and ASUS Australia being one of the first, The Chiefs also bolstered their own triumphs by announcing a new sponsorship opportunity with Logitech, solidifying the first time the apparatus giant has created a direct association within the Oceanic eSports arena. Not to be forgotten, the Oceanic Regional champions Avant Garde have their own firmly established sponsorships, with Plantronics and Corsair Gaming backing the organisation for a substantial period of time.
As more major sponsors enter the Oceanic League of Legends eSports scene, we continue to see a growing professionalism within both players and team management. As the scene continues to power onwards in its goal to replicate the successes of its international counterparts, this professionalism is needed to encourage bigger players into the industry. With time, mainstream companies such as Coke Zero, sponsors of the North American Challenger Series may turn their attention on the Oceanic stage.
